Professional Reviews-
The footage itself, particularly of the surf, is spectacular, with veteran cinematographer Bill Pope handling the camerawork. But the drama is soggy, overreaching for the heartfelt and overdoing the inspirational.
-Los Angeles Times
Chasing Mavericks is made with more care and intelligence than many another film starting with its template might have been. It's better than most movies targeted at teens. And the cinematography of the big Mavericks scene by Oliver Euclid and Bill Pope is so frightening that you sort of understand why Frosty stays on the shore, watching Jay with binoculars.

My Personal Review-
The author of this book, Chasing Mavericks, is Christine Peymani. This book was to be written as the movie novelization that is based on a true story of Jay Moriarty. The book shows the main events that took place through the main character, Jay Moriarty's life. He is an inspiration and someone that a lot of us now remember because of the things he conquered before he passed away in a tragic free-diving accident.
This book is a non-fiction book written by Christine Peymani. I think that the author wrote this book to inspire people about the story of the remembered hero from Santa Cruz, CA. The book is to be written to all of us so we get a understanding of the main characters life. I think that this was an outstanding book because it went into great detail but not to much about his life and it really gave you an idea of the hero he is.
Throughout this book there are so many themes that apply. The biggest one is probably to never give up as Jay Moriarty never gave up a single time in his life. Another theme that applies to the book is overcoming obstacles. Jay has to overcome the fact that his dad left him and he has no idea why. It was a lot harder for him to get over this as he was younger because he would see all his other friends who have a father and he for some reason did not. The trainer, Frosty Hesson, loses his wife from a stroke mid way through the story. That was very hard for him because she was such a good wife and great parent who everyone loved so much.
In my opinion, I thought that this book was written very well. I think that the author was trying to inspire people by this amazing story about this surfer from Santa Cruz, CA. If that was her goal then she succeeded because this book was very good. I do not think that the book left out any important points throughout the book. She included what she needed in order to make the story complete and very readable. I really enjoy surfing so this was a good book for me to read because I was able to relate to the surfing aspect. I liked the entire book to be honest. It was definitley one of the favorite books that i have read.
In conclusion, this is an amazing book for anyone who likes the sport of surfing or just wants to read a good book about a town hero who chases his dreams. After reading the book I now have a totally different view on surfing and somethings in life. It inspired me to chase my dreams and never give up on anything. This book and the whole story could definitely change your view on things.
